CIMARRON — The Ellinwood girls’ team won the 3A regional meet
to advance to the state tournament. Ellinwood beat TMP by 12 points for the regional title, and Larned
finished fourth as a team, just missing out on a trip to the state meet.
Ellinwood freshman Jenna Snell became the regional champion, winning the girls’ race by three seconds
at 15:32.91. Becky Elsen finished eighth with a time of 16:57.10, and Rebecca Strecker placed 10th at
17:04.13. Other finishers for Ellinwood were: Paulina Montoya (13th, 17:20.89); Michelle Klepper (25th, 18:04.45);
and Hannah Maddy (50th, 21:10.52).
Larned’s Shanna Prescott also qualified for state with a ninth place finish at 16:57.31. Teammate Alex
Lessard just missed the cut at 14th place (17:21.14).
In the boys’ race, Larned’s Jahman Hill is the only area qualifier, finishing ninth with a time of 7:50.45.
The Class 3A state meet will be held at the Wamego Country Club on
Saturday October 31.
